Honestly, not spamming or anything, was about to log off the internet and then had a lightbulb blink on in my brain. So this is my last topic, I promise, am not trying to flood the board or anything.

I have just finished rereading a book by an author caled Jenny Colgan. It's called "Looking for Andrew McCarthy".

The main character in the book is ditzy Brat Pack fan Ellie 'Hedgehog' Eversholt. As she reaches the dreaded three-oh, she realises that even though she has a group of wonderful friends, a steady job and a flat to her name, she is miserable with the cards she has been dealt in life. Often nostalgic about her adolescant years - the nineteen eighties - she ponders the movies she grew up with and wonders why it is that all the promises they held never quite made it into her life. With this in mind, she decides to take a trip to LA in search of her teen idol Andrew McCarthy (of Brat Pack fame) and demand answers.

I think if I was in need of answers I'd want to speak with Andrew. He is after all the wisest of the Brat packers.

Anyways, just a heads up. I highly reccomend this book, to all who love/d Andrew, and to those who still like to put on their ra ra skirts in private and have a little twirl.

Hi Rachael go ahead and post as much as you like. Actually I prefer seperate posts if you have more then one subject to talk about. It makes it easier to read.

I have this book. A good friend of mine from the UK sent it to me as a gift. I found it very amusing. I honestly don't know of many people who have read this book. Once in awhile a fan will surface and say they read it and it was a nice read. For some reason this book is only sold in the UK unless you can find a copy on ebay. "Jenny Colgan" is a great writer. I have a few of her books on my shelf. The character in the book reminds me of the "Bridget Jones" films.  Would love to hear your opinion on that?

Hi Rachel, Yes, what a fabulous little book, I have a copy and re-read it every now and again. A couple of years ago I was in Tulsa and on the way back we had a nine hour wait at Newark airport but I couldn't talk my sister into going Andrew hunting, she has no taste that girl. I had the book in mind then, tee. hee.

[Mary] - you should have let me know you couldn't get this book, I could have sent you a copy? Maybe if another one comes along who knows.

See ya - Shirleigh

Hi. I have that book, too. I enjoyed reading that book. I wish someone could produce that book into a motion picture. I will really appricate. I got chilled when Andrew met Elli at the coffee shop...You 'll enjoy to read that book.

Mikako,

Funny you should mention a film version...there have been talks about just that with the author.  I don't know what's holding up the "green light" on the project.

Perhaps the powers-that-be are waiting for a resurgence by Andrew, many "in the know" say that Lipstick Jungle might propel him back into the Hollywood spotlight (where he obviously belongs)

In a way I agree with what you're saying. Ellie is similar to Bridget in that she has the same set up - good friends, a flat of her own, a steady job... But also because she's fallible. She makes mistakes and doesn't always get things right, but she doesn't have malice with it, she doesn't mean to hurt anybody if she does, she's just human. I think it's also easy to relate to Ellie, much like it's easy to relate with Bridget. When she gets all tongue tied and star struck with him, I think that's how many of us would feel. I know I got star struck when I met Adam Duritz after a Counting crows gig. I couldn't think of a word to say, I ended up asking the guy if he liked cereal, when really I wanted to know what his take on the meaning of life was.

I grew quite fond of the hedgehog whilst reading the book, so fond in fact that I've probably read the damn thing about 8 times. Each time I just can't put it down and usually have it finished after three days. I know exactly how it finishes and what's going to happen, but I still swoon when they dance to pretty in pink, and my heart still does a little fox trot when she meets him in the cafe.

I reccomend all of Jenny's books. She's a fantastic writer. I've just finished "West End Girls" for the second time and am waiting to get hold of a copy of "Operation Sunshine", her most recent book. "Looking for Andrew McCarthy" is my favourite of all her books though. I just know I'm going to keep going back to it time and time again. It would be fantastic if they made a film of it.

Hey, if they wanted me to I'd write the bloody screenplay for them. I know the book like the back of my hand and I love the characters like my own family.

Rachel loved the way you summed up the character Ellie in the book. It's been a long time since I ead it and I get forgetful at times. One of my favotire parts was when she met the wrong Adnrew McCarthy. That would be just my luck. ha I have three of Jenny Colgans Books. Besides Looking for Adnrew McCarthy I have read Amanda's Wedding which was great. Have not read Talking To Addison yet but it's sitting here waiting for me to open it.

I also have this book and love it. My husband bought it for me off e-bay as a present, and I imediately read it cover to cover. My favorite part is when she gets to meet him at the cafe. The way the author describes the way Andrew is, what he says, it's just the way I imagine he would be. My hope is to meet him someday, and ask him to autograph it biggrin.gif.
