On September 19th, an all-star reading of Neil Simon’s Plaza Suite will benefit the future expansion of Opening Act, an innovative nonprofit that provides free after-school theater programming to New York City’s most underserved public high schools.

Plaza Suite is being produced by Suzy Myers and Jamie McGonnigal and will be directed by Jonathan Ross. One Life to Live’s Ilene Kristen and Christopher Murney, along with Mamma Mia’s Britt Shubow, star in the first act as a couple whose 23rd wedding anniversary brings more than just celebration. Laura Benanti (FX’s Starved, Broadway’s Nine, Into The Woods and Swing) and The Light in the Piazza’s Michael Berresse (replacing Andrew McCarthy, who had a last-minute filming conflict) play former high school sweethearts reunited for one night at the Plaza Hotel. In Act III, All Shook Up’s Alix Korey and Michael Badalucco (The Practice, O Brother, Where Art Thou) struggle with a daughter whose wedding day jitters leave her locked in the bathroom of their Plaza Suite. Other cast members include John Lavelle (The Graduate) and Toby Lawless.

Opening Act believes every student deserves a place to shine. They provide the stage. Theater is the medium through which their students gain confidence, pride and the knowledge that they can succeed at anything in life. Currently providing after-school theater programs at four public high schools, Opening Act’s mission is to see that every New York City public school student has access to an artistic space where they can develop commitment, community, and leadership through their artistic achievement. For more information on Opening Act, please visit www.openingactnewyork.org.

The reading will take place at the High School for the Humanities -- 351 West 18th Street -- on Monday, September 19th at 8PM. A reception will be held for Premium Ticket Holders at 6:30 PM. Tickets range from $10-$100 and can be purchased at www.openingactnewyork.org

Hey Rach, Thanks for the updates on Andrew. Hmm I wonder what other commitments they are talkking about. Maybe it's his guest appearance on E Ring.

Mary-CNN surpprised me last night by doing a 4 or 5 minute piece about the new TV series ERING which starts Wednesday at 9:00. Brief interview with Andrew but I couldn't tell if he will be a regular or if he will be in one episode. It was interesting as the man who is connected with both CNN and the program explained about the rings in the Pentagon and the Ering is the outer ring with all the power. Andrew said his loyalty is to be with whoever can help him achieve his goal. Andrew looks great and doesn't seem to age at all.I hope the series is a hit but it will be very serious and sometimes the public prefers lighter stuff.

Peggy, thanks for your great reply. When you told me Andrew was on CNN I about flipped. Wasn't that a huge surprise. I really never knew muc h about the Pentagon and the 5 rings. Now I want to learn more about that. Wouldn't it be nice if he does more interveiws. Let's hope so.

Mary-watched the show tonight. As I thought it was complicated and sometimes hard to follow. Reminded me of West Wing which started the same way. I almost gave up on it but now wouldn't miss it. You had to get to know the characters and there is always more than one plot. Don't know if the public will give it's blessing but I do think we should encourage them with our emails. When Andrew gets on that will be a must. Guess Andrew will only get one episode since they               concluded each plot in the one episode

Rach- CNN is the original 24 hour all news channel started in 1980. NBC and Fox have followed but millions inccluding me watch CNN all the time. They have a brief entertainment section with a few headlines but never mention TV programs as far as I  know. It seems one of the men connected with CNN is a producer of the show. It is very serious and I am not at all sure it will be a hit but you never know. I assume Andrew will be in only one episode but I could be wrong on that of course. The anchor who did the story said she would do more next Sunday including interviews with the stars. Hope that includes Andrew. He was his usual fidgity uncomfortable self who talked too fast.

Ironic you  wrote because I was going to    write you to ask how you found out Andrew was to be in that show. We haven't had a clue about him since he got back from Ireland except for that one nighter he was supposeddo oton Broadway. I will try to keep you up to date about   the show. Bye now  Peggy
