I have finally seen Camp Hell. The good news is I think Andrew and Bruce Davidson plus some of the younger people were reaqlly good actors. The idea was there but I thought it was so lacking. I just didn't care for the way it was written. Waiting for your opinions.
I skimmed the movie this evening, so I can't speak to the plot other than I know of no Catholics who are that intense. Granted, there's Opus Dei, but this resembled a cult. Andrew did a nice job of saying his prayers.
Mary, do you know someone in Doylestown?
Sandy, I thought the exact same thing. those Catholic's were a little over the top. Or should I say way over the top. That is one of the reasons why I thought a lot of the film didn't make any sense. It did make the Catholics seem like a cult.
My son's girlfriend lives in Doyle's Town. Last weekend he went to visist her and had a great time. She showed him all around the area, including dwntown Philly.
Mary, I think you hit the nail on the head with what annoyed me the most about the movie. It was really inconsistent in its theme. To me, the characters went in and out of character too often. I think this was due to the writing, not the actors themselves.
I'm thinking back to Heaven Help Us. One of the reasons I liked the movie was because it was so consistent in portraying Catholic school...and the characters were consistent throughout.
As an aside, Doylestown is a really nice little community in Bucks County, PA. The running joke is that you need bucks to live in Bucks. And it's rather true. Did they meet at college? What did your son think of Philly?
Sandy, I see what they wre trying to do with the film. But it jsut didn't owrk. I think it would have been much better if the Priest was the only one over the top. I could go on and on. My son met his girlfriend in Chicago. Her cousin was dating my nephew and the two were invited over to the hosue. This was about five years ago. They finally hooked up long distance. She goes to Eastern University. I forget the name of the town. My son radlly liked Philly he said he had a awsome time.
