Although it has been an incredibly mild winter so far and we really cant complain too loudly, most Bostonians still cant help but dream of beautiful sandy beaches now that its February.

This weekend, the 2012 Boston Globe Travel Show will come to town where we can all escape the cold by checking out some exotic destinations at the three-day travel event. On February 10-12, 2012, at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston, the show will include exhibitors featuring travel destinations around the world, show-only travel deals, cultural and culinary presentations and trip giveaways.

Some impressive giveaways up for offer will be a trip for two to South Africa; a Caribbean vacation for two to St. Lucia or a trip for two to The Grenadines; two round-trip tickets on the Amtrak Downeaster; a two-night stay at the Hotel Regno in Rome; a free nine-day Danube River Cruise for two; a three-night Coastal Maine Vacation; and a two-night stay at Lake Opechee Inn & Spa and a trip to Tokyo.

Also attending this years show are travel writers Arthur and Pauline Frommer, who will discuss when and where to splurge on your next vacation as well as highlighting new destinations. Actor and travel writer Andrew McCarthy will share his vision on the Transformative Power of Travel and how it can change your life. One of our favorite authors, Patricia Schultz, writer of 1,000 Places To See Before You Die, will also be on hand to discuss some of the most amazing must-see destinations in the world while Patrick Smith, author of the column Ask the Pilot, will discuss the myths and misconceptions surrounding air travel.

Be sure to check out the two stages of culinary demonstrations where you can see local chefs showing off some of their favorite recipes while offering sample tastings. Over the weekend festivities, there will also be a variety of entertainment, including live Aruban music, animal educators from SeaWorld Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay with some exotic animals and live Irish music and step dancing.

The 2012 Boston Globe Travel Show will be open to the public from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 10; from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, February 11; and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 12. Tickets for the show are $10 and are available at the show or in advance at BostonGlobeTravelShow.com. Children 18 and under are free.

Andrew is still in Alaska. Can he move back to Boston for the travel show on Feb.11? I'm just worried about it.

Mikako, I think he tweeted that he left Alaska today. I think, though, that he's going to be tired. He keeps a tight schedule at times.

I guess Andrew went to Boston. He is on the trainv on the way back to NYC. I wish I could go to Penn Station in NYC, so I could say "hi" to him. Silly me.

Mikako, you're not silly at all.  I think I understand your thoughts on seeing Andrew.  Earlier today I was thinking that I may need to consider doing some traveling just to catch Andrew at another event.
