OK, a friend of mine asked me a question about Andrew's movies...I decided it best to ask the good members of McCarthy Road here:
Which of Andrew's movies would you keep in your video library if Andrew wasn't in it? Meaning, my friend wanted to know which of his films were good on their own merit, had a good plot, and would remain in your library if Andrew McCarthy had never even appeared in them?
I came up with several, but I wanted to open the topic up to you guys.
Straight From the Heart, Anything But Love, A Father for Brittany aka Change of Heart. All of these are good movies Valerie and I would watch even if he were not in them; however, Andrew made them sooooooooo much better.
Pretty in Pink was a wonderful modern day cinderella love story..and ofcourse Less Than Zero was a dark look into the reality of drug use,... then there is Heaven Help Us about learning to stand up and have courage plus the side plot love story,... The Secret Life of Zoey where a seemingly perfect high school girl is addicted to drugs and the tough love it takes to keep her sober, In New Waterford Girl a talented girl dreams of escaping her impoverised town in search of her passion,... Mannequin was lighthearted, funny, and cute , hmmmmm ok next is St. Elmo's Fire need I say more?
I think these are some of my favorites though there is sure to be more! As hot as Andrew makes me with his boyish grin and blue twinkle eyes, it is his ability to fall into role and make the character real. If someone else had acted these parts there's no way to tell if they would have the same effect. I believe Andrew chooses his roles (movies or plays) because he feels he can bring the written word of a script to life and most the time he succeeds but sometimes he fails. But no matter what he always looks so fine !! So, just repeat all that back to your friend and that should be enough said... lol
