For each issue of Afar, our staff chooses a destination at randomby literally spinning a globeand sends a writer on a spontaneous journey. The department, called Spin the Globe, is one of our favorites, because we never know what might happen. In the March/April issue, on newsstands February 9th, we sent writer and actor Andrew McCarthy to Ethiopia. Heres a short dispatch we received from Andrew while he was on assignment.

The name of the magazine is AFAR. It is the March/April issue. It is also a travel magazine

Hi. You know what? I had to purchase an international money order to get a copy of AFAR magazine. I had to pay $39.95 for an order and $20.00 for  money order purchase. $20.00 for the fee!!! You think I am crazy. Yep, I must be crazy to read his article.

When you have been collecting  his films and keeping up with his articles for so long when you miss something you feel lost. lol

andrew- i picked yp a cooking magazine, and read your article on irish soda bread-near and dear to my heart.  i have now read your article-ethiopia underground.  your articles are refreshing and interesting.   i used to watch your movies with so much pride at your talent.  though to me, you are the little guy i used to babysit on the boulevard in westfield!!!    glad to see the wonderful success you made of yourself - sincerelu judy king hawco     (saintjude106@yahoo.com)
