LA Times Travel & Adventure Show 2011: Day One Posted Mar.20, 2011 under Entertainment, Travel Earlier I said this will be the best travel show of the year and it lived up to the hype. I listened to three amazing, passionate travel writers, Arthur Frommer, Andrew McCarthy, and Rick Steves. Ill go into detail in future posts.
The recession may be over as tons of wannabe travelers swamped the LA Convention Center. Countless countries were showing their wares on one end while many US states showcased their finer points on the other. The Taiwan booth was especially fun with a boba drink shaking contest and a stationary bike cycling contest.
If you are the adventurous type, make sure to try their zipline, scuba pool, or rock climbing wall. There were tons of goodies, endless giveaways, and yummy treats! You can also take in cultural dance performances as well. If you dont have time to take a vacation, this is the next best thing. While youre there, you will have everything you need to PLAN your next vacation, so snap to it!
I couldnt find a current commercial, but this clip from 2009 shows you what adventure awaits you. Tomorrow, more Rick Steves and Samantha Brown!
Sandy by all means I don't think you are rubbing anything in. I am really excited for you and I am sure everyone else is too. And after if you can't stop talking about it that's okay we won't stop listening. :)
Thanks for the kind thoughts Rach. One of my son's classmates was picking on him and threatened to have his uncle come over to school to kill my son. The said boy is having major issues in school, which were being addressed. Now, though, everything is stepped-up.
This DC trip will be a nice family get-away, especially for Mom.
Sandy I am so sorry to hear about that news with your son. Hopefully it all all work out. When my kids were in school there were some pretty messed up ones. It is so nerve racking. Let us know how that all works out.Yep
Yep a nicce trip is what you need. And if Andrew just happens to be there that is a added pleleasure for you. :)
If you son't mind me asking. Did you say you lived in New Jersey? And is it anywhere near Hoboken.?

Thank you for the well wishes. The school has been very proactive about the incident. The kids had been on the school's radar for a while, and this just sped-up their testing him for learning issues.
Mary, I grew up in New Jersey (Piscataway, then Warren County) and worked in Rahway prior to and when I was first married. My hubby's job landed us in a nice community halfway between Philly and Allentown, PA.
NYC is still our first love--we try to go in a few times a year just to walk around and take in the excitement of the place.
