Rapp, Berkley, Jackson, Sheedy, Kotis Join The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway Lineup

Kate Burton, Anthony Rapp, Cheyenne Jackson, Ally Sheedy, Charlotte d'Amboise and surprise celebrity guests join Adam Pascal, Ben Shenkman, Amanda Peet, Rosie Perez and more for The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway.


Glamour Magazine and LYCRAŽ in association with Moxie Pictures present The 24 Hour Company and Planet Impact fifth annual star-studded benefit with the creation to-performance day to culminate Oct. 24 at the American Airlines Theatre. Proceeds will support Working Playground.

Ashlie Atkinson, Elizabeth Berkley, Kate Burton, Margaret Colin, Charlotte d'Amboise, John G. Connolly, Rachel Dratch, Kathryn Erbe, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, Cady Huffman, Cheyenne Jackson, Anthony Mackie, Terrence Mann, Andrew McCarthy, S. Epatha Merkerson, David Moscow, Adam Pascal, Amanda Peet, Rosie Perez, Anthony Rapp, Andre Royo, William Sadler, Ally Sheedy, Ben Shenkman, Fisher Stevens, Tracie Thoms and Alan Tudyk are scheduled to appear.

Indhu Rubasingham, Christopher Ashley, Hal Brooks and Maria Mileaf are among the directors who will stage the short works by Adam Bock (Swimming in the Shallows), Greg Kotis (Urinetown), Betty Shamieh (Roar), David Lindsay-Abaire (Fuddy Meers), Dael Orlandersmith (Yellowman) and Warren Leight (Side Show). (All artists is subject to change).

The full one-day process of The 24-Hour Plays begins at 10 PM the night prior to performance. Typically, a group of theatre artists (playwrights, directors, actors and designers) meet and are briefed and photographed. The writers are then left to their own wits to produce a ten-minute play. The following morning at 7 AM, the directors give the scripts a once-over, divvy them up and cast them. Actors make their entrance at 8 AM and rehearse through the day. The technical rehearsals run from 5 PM to 7:30 PM. Doors open at 7:45 PM and curtain rises at 8 PM and voila: six shows, all in a day's work.

Those involved in this production join a long line of artists who have participated in more than 100 writers, 1000 actors and 300 new short plays that The 24 Hour Plays has produced since its inception in 1995.

STAR WARS star HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN made his Broadway, New York, debut last night (24OCT05) when he appeared briefly in a 10 minute play.

The Canadian actor took to the stage at the American Airlines Arena for a four minute performance in short play THIS IS NOW, as the son of a cancer-stricken man who makes a pass at his ex-girlfriend.

Christensen was among the big name actors and actresses taking part in the fifth annual 24 HOUR PLAYS benefit, which raises cash for non-profit groups in the Big Apple.

Other celebrities who participated in the six plays, which were performed in a 24 hour period yesterday (24OCT05), included SHOWGIRLS star ELIZABETH BERKLEY and former Brat Packers ALLY SHEEDY and ANDREW McCARTHY.

The event raised over $100,000 (GBP55,500).

Andrew McCarthy is among the directors signed up for The 24 Hour Plays latest day long creation for works penned by Michael John Garces, Mike Doughty, muMs and more.


Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the mainstage season opener will perform one night only Dec. 5 at the Peter Norton Space in midtown Manhattan.

Scheduled to take part in the event (subject to change) are writers Mike Doughty (singer-songwriter and former Soul Coughing frontman who has performed at past events), Michael John Garces (Frag), Elizabeth Meriweather (Nicky Goes Goth), muMs, (aka Craig Grant), Mac Rogers (Fleet Week: The Musical) and Elizabeth Sorrell (Voice. Directors will be Mark Armstrong, Eli Gonda, Andrew McCarthy, Brian Mertes, and Stephen Willeford with an ensemble that includes Gbenga Akinnagbe, Nicolle Bradford, Micah Bucey, Joachin Perez Campbell, Brent Cox, Michael Esper, Alexie Gilmore, Patrick Heusinger, Kara Mosley, Kelley O'Donnell, Lucas Papaelias, Matt Stadelmann, Allison Twardziak, Lawrence Winslow and Nancy Wu.
