I think Amazon is considered separate from bookstore shelves, is that correct? Hopefully that means there will be some sort of movement for a London appearance. This may be a good time for me to give him a nudge and for my friend Shelly to contact her rep at S&S. I will do some sniffing! Joanne, I have an extra signed book is you would like one. I know it's settling, but it's something.
I really hope he comes over and i can get there.. I ordered my book from Amazon and there was none left. Mine still has not been dispatched :( Said it was released 11th Oct 12 here.
How much would you want for the signed book? To send it to England as well?
I don't know how to covert pounds to dollars, so I can just send it and worry about the rest later. Do you have PayPal? It would be pretty cheap because the dollar is a bargain. You can send your address to sstaxprep@aol.com. I just rather you get the book in your hand first. I think it takes about 8-9 days to get to the UK from the US. It's morning here, so if I hear from you today, I can send it today.
From the sounds of it, the release of Andrew's book in the UK doesn't sound like it went as smoothly as it did in the US. Perhaps that is why a London signing was put on hold. Frankly, I cannot make sense of when the book was released and who had it in stock. It sounds like Amazon and one bookstore had it in advance, but I am totally confused. However, there is no point in setting up a book signing if you can't get the book in the hands of the people. Also, if people start reading it and tell their friends, the book also needs to be available. This is starting to make sense. Can anyone add any comments from an English POV?
Star, help me out here, how much would $25 be in pounds? Do you have any idea? Does 15.5 pounds sound about right? Because that's how much it would be with shipping. Sorry, but I am not great with currency conversion.
Yes, I worked this out when we did the indiegogo for the other thing - it's not exact but it's about $25 = roughly £15. It does fluctuate a tiny bit with each transaction but at the moment, that's roughly it.
Hi. I just wonder why his book is hard to obtain in the UK. I've got a copy of his book a week earlier than the official publishing day in Japan via amazon.co.jp. You guys share the same language, but its distribusion system is running diffrrently? I want you to have his awsome book in your hand. Since I have two copies, I am willing you send you one of them.
I am intested in buying the book from you.. and Andrews last tweet looks like he is in london as he is at the globe watching Stepen Fry. Wish he would say whether he is doing a signing as well.. Oh well
It is the perfect time to do a signing, and can't see him flying back to do a signing :( Was so hoping that i would get to see him been 31 years of loving him as an actor..
You know, I just saw where Andrew is flying out to the West Coast again for another event and book signing. This is the weirdest book signing schedule I have ever seen. No prob with the book. I have it ready to go. I am a bit sad, but it looks like the book roll-out in the UK was not very smooth. To me, it sounds like he had time carved out for a signing but the logistics did not work out. I checked UK Amazon and it looked like the book was not available.
Good to hear from you, Sandy. So you have his book(s) to ship out to the fan(s) in the UK. His signing tour is very unefficient and he must be tired by now. I blame the person whoever making schedule like this! Shoulc I email Free Press to check the availibility of his book in the UK? I bet there are his fans thought the world.
Hi sorry i am so busy at University (very very mature student :)) Next week i will sort the money for the book if that is ok with you? I am so upset that he was in the UK but we couldn't get to see him.. :( I had the last book from Amazon uk, don't know if they get any more in.. I have other fav writers and have terrible trouble in the uk to get their books.. Example being Jennifer Donnelly The Wild Rose.. Been out in the US for months and months.. not a bean in the UK.. Have messaged her on facebook and she replies with still no date confirmed. Its to expensive to buy from the US and even ebay is expensive. Think the UK needs to get its books in order :) Anyway i am so sad that i didn't get to meet him after all these years but still live in hope..
Joanne, send me your address now and worry about the money later. sstaxprep@aol.com
Mikako, I think my friend Shelly has the best access to Free Press books (actually Simon & Schuster, the parent company), since she is in the business). Don't forget, Andrew has his hands in many pots: he writes, he acts, he directs. He could be out and about for any number of reasons. And he could tack on a trip for that reason.
Sadly, I doubt it would be wise to have a book talk (note that Andrew also tended to go on someone's TV talk show as well) if the book was not widely available. From the sounds of it, the book was not widely available. Rach, did your book arrive from Amazon UK? Joanne, did you order or buy yours yet? I am trying to get a feel for what stores do or do not have this book. I am more than happy to send it. I think I've gotten pretty good at sending international packages!
Amazon.co.uk sent them out around mid sept. There's been some mix up somewhere.
I wonder if the october date was the paperback release here I see on the amazon link? http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=longest+way+home+andrew+mccarthy&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Alongest+way+home+andrew+mccarthy&ajr=0
The kindle version was here in the uk on the 18 sept according to amazon and thats when some of the hardbacks went out.
And I agree with Joanne, books are getting scarcer here. We don't even have a book store anymore in my area, the nearest is actually a train ride away. How crazy is that??? I have to order everything.
I think I said to you some time back in DMs or email when TLWH was announced about the rate at which books come here, compared to US.
Hi. The first of all, thank you for your help again. The ladies in the UK won't get Andrew's book without your help. Nice to have friens like you and your friend, Shelly. I wonder whether Amazon.co.uk is making profit to handle business like this ! Thanks again, Sandy. Good work!
Oh my gosh! You know, I vaguely remember someone saying something about bookstores drying up, but I couldn't remember who it was because I heard it from several sources. I will blame my weird endocrine problem...time to get the 'ol thyroid checked again! Seriously, though, another girl from CA (I think) mentioned the lack of bookstores. I am spoiled. I have Shelly's store within walking distance from my house. I'm there at least once a week. I missed the whole concept of England not having a ton of bookstores around. Wow. Interesting! Wow! Darn.
Think its quite sad that if you say bookshop in the UK all people know is Waterstones.. and pretty much thats it.. WH smith have some books and the supermarkets here sell the best sellers at cut price.. like the latest paperbacks 2 for £6.. Thing is with waterstones most only sell a selection.. alot of books but not low sellers. They will order in but then if you are going to do that you may as well use amazon.. I just had to get a book for my uni course and to get it at a waterstones its 30-50 miles away!!

My goodness, corner bookstores are really going the way of the dinosaur there, aren't they? Now that's a shame. There's a bunch of Indy ones around here. And Andrew has now confirmed several times that he has a second book in the works which, knowing him, means that he has it probably completed and is shopping it around publishers one the fanfare of this book dies down. I will never figure him out.
Yep...his fiction book. He mentioned it in one published interview and I heard it mentioned two other times verbally (one at the Philly book talk). He said it was a fiction book about, if I recall, love and commitment gone bad. Paul Thoreau, an author he admires, wrote a similar book against the backdrop of travel. Andrew felt he didn't need that backdrop, so I think it is a straight fiction book. Book tour anyone?
Wow.. Hope he does a good old UK book tour for this book! :) Though if i know well in advanced i could get to Dublin before the tickets rise though the roof..
