I ask if the journey was a test for him to see whether he could resist physical temptation before he committed to a life of sex with the same woman.

"I don't think so," he laughs. "What do you mean? Was I trying to go get laid on the road?" he laughs. "I don't think temptations pass. They present themselves again and again. It is just our response to them. You can be tempted walking across the street. So I don't think going away is that. I never hit the road to get laid. It wasn't ever my motive. But I do think there was a certain sense of emotional infidelity in travelling alone. I think that's true."

Can you explain me please what Andrew is tring to say? If he saw a woman he can fell in love with her and have an affair?

I think Andrew was saying that his main reason for traveling was NOT to have or seek sex with other women.  I do not think he would cheat on his wife at all--he just loves her that much.  However, he is not going to lie and say that there were not opportunities to cheat.  But he is also correct in saying that you do not have to travel to find temptation...it can be right around the corner from where you Live.

Remember, there is a travel industry that caters to vacations just for the sake of sex, usually with very young women in Asia.  I think Andrew was firmly separating himself from that.  In all the times I met him, there is NO WAY I would think that.  Further, he quite often takes his family on his travels despite writing travel stories that suggest he travels alone.

I hope this helps.
